RBRC directive (battery recycling)

The American Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) was established in 1994. It is a non-profit public service organization that mainly helps and promotes the recycling of rechargeable batteries, including wireless power tools, mobile phones and cordless phones, notebook computers and cameras. Nickel-cadmium batteries (Ni-Cd), nickel-metal hydride batteries (Ni-MH), lithium-ion batteries (Li-ion) and small sealed lead batteries (Pb) in recorders, etc. As long as the user sees the rechargeable battery recycling company (RBRC) logo certified by the US Environmental Protection Agency on the rechargeable battery, it means that it can be recycled and reused.

This is one of the extended producer responsibility (EPR) policies. EPR is an environmental policy first implemented in OECD member countries, which expands the responsibility of producers for their products to the post-consumer waste disposal stage of the product life cycle. RBRC also has two important roles: to educate users of rechargeable power on the benefits of recycling and reuse of rechargeable batteries, and to set up and implement recycling programs where there is no recycling program.

Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) provides three programs to collect, transport, and reuse used rechargeable batteries.

A. Retail recycling program: RBRC provides retail store owners with containers for the recycling of used rechargeable batteries in the store.

B. Community Recycling Program: RBRC helps communities and municipalities to recycle used rechargeable batteries into their existing household waste cleanup program. These batteries are collected at a fixed location, and RBRC will pay for the transportation and recycling of these used batteries.

C. Corporate and public sector recycling programs: RBRC assists companies, businesses and government departments in setting and managing non-domestic rechargeable batteries in the workplace.

At present, many battery manufacturers in China have joined the RBRC organization, but it is confusing and regrettable that the RBRC logo and its recycling channels are rarely seen in life. By carefully reviewing the publicity materials of most Chinese member companies, we found this phenomenon: many Chinese companies only regard joining the RBRC organization as an honor or a bragging capital to increase product competitiveness, but there is no specific, An introduction to the operational recycling methods.

If these Chinese companies certified by the RBRC organization can promote and implement the RBRC concept in China, it will truly enhance the company's international image.
