What is GEMS certification
In order to improve the energy efficiency of electrical equipment and products in various industries, and to enhance significant economic and environmental benefits, Australia and New Zealand issued Greenhouse and Energy Low Standard Technical Regulations (referred to as GEMS) and came into effect on October 1, 2012. The new GEMS The regulations not only cover the main policy work in the past, but also mandatory
minimum performance standards (MEPS for short). In terms of MEPS registration in GEMS regulations, in contrast to the past, applicants can no longer choose any state to register on the Australian official website. Instead, they are required to register with the Australian Regulator. At the same time, in the Australian states and jurisdictions. In the region, for all product types, the GEMS regulations no longer set a single registration fee. The product types will be divided into four categories. The registration fee will range from AUD 440 to AUD 780. The registration period is 5 years.
GEMS certification is a mandatory performance and efficiency certification officially implemented by the Australian and New Zealand governments on October 1, 2012, to replace MEPS certification. As GEMS certification stipulates that only local applicants in Australia or New Zealand can register and apply, to a certain extent, there are certain trade barriers to Chinese products.
Certified product range
Currently, the products regulated by GEMS certification include:
Compact fluorescent lamps, extra low voltage converters, double-ended fluorescent lamps, fluorescent ballasts, incandescent lamps, washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, external power supplies, TVs, digital set-top boxes, electric water heaters, air conditioners and heat pumps, three-phase motors, Household refrigeration appliances, refrigeration towers/precision air conditioners, commercial refrigerators, showcases, power distribution transformers, etc.
Authentication process
The first is to select products for testing. The testing standards are consistent with the original MEPS certification. Generally speaking, any test report provided by an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory can be recognized;
The second is to submit test reports and other materials for GEMS registration. After the materials are reviewed and passed, the GEMS certification will be obtained. The new GEMS regulations mainly have new requirements for registration. Applicants cannot select a single state for registration, but are unified to the Australian Regulatory Authority for registration.
