UN38.3 certification

In order to effectively ensure the safety of air transportation of batteries and avoid unsafe incidents, the Civil Aviation Administration of China issued the "Regulations for Air Transport of Lithium Batteries" to air transportation companies, which clearly requires airports to strictly abide by the requirements for lithium battery transportation during the collection and transportation of lithium batteries. According to the provisions of a laboratory accredited by the Civil Aviation Administration of China for UN38.3 testing, those without a UN38.3 conformity report cannot be accepted for transport.

At present, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the International Air Transport Association "Dangerous Goods Regulations", airlines apply to mobile phone batteries, laptop batteries, walkie-talkie batteries, and camera batteries that are transported alone or with equipment and are rechargeable lithium batteries. , Remote control toy batteries and other products have made relevant testing regulations, of which the testing requirements for products containing lithium batteries are "United Nations Dangerous Goods Transport Tests and Standards Manual" Part 3, Section 38.3 (referred to as UN38.3 Test).

UN38.3 test items

T.1 height simulation test

Under the conditions of pressure≤11.6kPa and temperature of 20±5℃.

T.2 Thermal test

High and low temperature impact test under the conditions of 75±2℃ and -40±2℃, storage time at limit temperature ≥6h, high and low temperature conversion time ≤30min impact 10 times, room temperature (20±5℃) storage for 24h, test The total time is at least one week

T.3 Vibration test

Complete a reciprocating logarithmic sweep frequency sine vibration from 7Hz to 200Hz within 15min, and complete 12 vibrations in three-dimensional direction within 3h;

T.4 Impact test

150g, 6ms or 50g, 11ms half-sine impact, 3 times in each installation direction, a total of 18 times;

T.5 External short circuit test

Short-circuit under the condition of 55±2℃ and external resistance<0.1Ω, and the short-circuit time lasts for 1h after the battery temperature returns to 55±2℃.

T.6 crash test

A 9.1kg weight is dropped from a height of 61±2.5cm on the battery with a 15.8mm round rod, and the surface temperature of the battery is detected.

T.7 Overcharge test

Under the conditions of 2 times the maximum continuous charging current and 2 times the maximum charging voltage, overcharge the battery for 24 hours.

T.8 Forced discharge test

The battery is connected in series with a 12V DC power supply and is forced to discharge with the maximum discharge current.

Lithium battery packaging requirements

1. Unless installed in equipment

(Such as installed in mobile phones, cameras, walkie-talkies, laptops, etc.), batteries and primary batteries must be packaged separately to prevent short circuits, and packed in a strong outer packaging.

2. Unless installed in equipment, if each package contains more than 24 primary batteries or 12 batteries, the following requirements must also be met:

1) Each package must be marked with a mark to indicate the special measures that should be taken when the lithium battery is contained and the package is damaged.

2) Each shipment must have a random document to explain the lithium battery in the package and the special measures to be taken when the package is damaged.

3) Each package must be able to withstand a 1.2m drop test in any orientation, without damaging the battery or cell in the package, and without changing the position of the battery or the battery and the battery (or the primary battery and the primary battery). Contact, no battery leaking from the package.

4) Unless the lithium battery is installed in the equipment, the gross weight of each package must not exceed 30kg.

UN38.3 test cost

 UN38.3 is classified according to battery type, size, specification, capacity, and use. The cost of different classifications varies.
